Over HSBC CONTINENTAL EUROPE

HSBC Continental Europe (HSBC Continental Europe S.A.) is the European Union banking subsidiary of HSBC Holdings plc, headquartered in Paris and used as the group’s EU hub following Brexit. Its activities are concentrated on corporate, institutional and wealth clients, covering transaction banking (cash management, payments, trade and receivables finance), global markets (foreign exchange, rates, commodities), securities services (custody, clearing, fund services), and advisory and financing in debt and equity capital markets and M&A. The sale of its French retail banking operations to My Money Group completed in 2024, with the legacy branch network and consumer accounts transferred and rebranded as CCF; private banking, insurance and asset management activities in France remain within the HSBC group. The bank operates through branches in selected EU countries to provide cross‑border services linked to HSBC’s global network. It is supervised as a significant institution under the European Central Bank’s Single Supervisory Mechanism, with prudential oversight by the Autorité de Contrôle Prudentiel et de Résolution and market activities overseen by the Autorité des Marchés Financiers. Eligible deposits booked in France are protected by the Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et de Résolution up to EUR 100,000 per depositor per institution, and investment services are covered by the investor compensation mechanism up to EUR 70,000, subject to French rules. Pricing and onboarding are relationship‑based and primarily aimed at businesses and high‑net‑worth clients; standard consumer products such as current accounts, cards and mortgages are no longer offered by this entity. The franchise’s practical advantages are international reach, wholesale product breadth and EU passporting capabilities, while limitations include the absence of retail services, a reduced physical footprint after the retail divestiture, and processes and pricing structured for larger or more complex client profiles.
