Methodology

Rankings on Banks.eu combine hard data (rates, fees, capital ratios, credit ratings) with structured editorial checks (regulatory status, coverage, onboarding). This page describes exactly how each ranking is put together and how you can verify it.

Data sources

Primary sources are the issuer's own website (product terms, rate sheets), the bank's most recent audited annual report and pillar-3 disclosures, and the supervising regulator's register (ECB, BaFin, Banque de France, CNMV, Consob, Central Bank of Ireland, DNB and equivalents). Credit ratings are the current published long-term issuer ratings from Fitch, Moody's and S&P.

Rate and pricing data

Interest rates on fixed deposits, savings accounts and cash products are collected weekly from the issuer's public tariff and verified against the account terms before publication. Where a rate is promotional (limited to new customers or first N months), the promotional flag and duration are shown alongside the rate. Fees shown are the standard published tariff for a retail resident.

Ranking weights

Product rankings (best fixed deposits, best savings) weight net yield to a typical retail resident most heavily (60–70%), with the remainder from deposit protection scheme (DGS) coverage, minimum deposit and lock-in, and ease of onboarding.

Bank safety rankings weight long-term credit rating (40%), CET1 capital ratio (25%), systemic status and MREL fill (20%) and DGS jurisdiction strength (15%). Broker rankings weight product coverage, total cost for a representative €25,000 portfolio, custody and compensation, and usability.

Commercial relationships

Some links on Banks.eu are affiliate or partner links, clearly labelled as sponsored. These never influence editorial ranking order. Sponsored placements are shown as advertising units, not as editorial ranking positions.
