Sobre Berner Kantonalbank AG
Berner Kantonalbank AG (BEKB | BCBE) is the cantonal bank of the Canton of Bern, headquartered in Bern and founded in 1834. It operates as a universal bank focused on private clients, SMEs, and the public sector, offering payment and savings accounts, mortgages (fixed-rate and SARON-linked), consumer and SME lending, corporate banking and cash management, custody and brokerage, investment advisory and discretionary mandates, and Swiss retirement solutions (pillar 3a and vested benefits). The bank provides CHF and selected foreign-currency accounts, debit and credit cards (credit cards issued via a partner), e-banking and a mobile app with eBill, QR-bill and TWINT, and an ATM and advisory network across the region with bilingual service in German and French. For businesses it offers corporate accounts, domestic and cross-border payments, liquidity and merchant services, and real estate and project finance. BEKB is supervised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) and the Swiss National Bank; customer deposits are protected by the Swiss deposit insurance scheme (esisuisse) up to CHF 100,000 per client and per bank. The bank reports under Swiss GAAP FER, publishes audited annual and half-year results, and its shares are listed on SIX Swiss Exchange. The balance sheet is mortgage-heavy and earnings are primarily driven by net interest income, with risk concentrated in Swiss real estate and interest-rate exposure; it is not designated as a systemically important bank in Switzerland. Account opening primarily targets Swiss residents and locally domiciled businesses, while onboarding of non-resident clients is limited and subject to enhanced checks. Pricing follows published fee schedules, with package pricing for retail accounts and separate tariffs for transactions, cards, securities custody and trading, and international payments; foreign-exchange markups and third-party product costs may apply.
