KBC Bank Ireland plc is an Irish-licensed bank and a wholly owned subsidiary of Belgium’s KBC Group NV/NV, historically active in retail banking, deposits, payments, consumer finance, and residential mortgages. In 2021 the group announced its intention to withdraw from the Irish market; following regulatory approvals, the bank ceased offering new products, closed its branch “Hub” network, and completed the transfer of the vast majority of performing loans and deposits to Bank of Ireland in 2022–2023. As a result, KBC Bank Ireland now operates in wind-down mode with a residual portfolio and continues to service certain legacy accounts and customer queries arising from the exit. During the withdrawal, current accounts were closed on a phased basis and customers were advised to move payment mandates; digital access and servicing were maintained to support migration and the handling of remaining products. The bank remains regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland; eligible deposits held with KBC Bank Ireland during the transition were covered by the Irish Deposit Guarantee Scheme (up to €100,000 per person per institution, subject to scheme rules). The institution has also been subject to regulatory actions, including a Central Bank of Ireland enforcement outcome in 2022 relating to tracker mortgage failures and redress. Prospective or existing customers should note that KBC Bank Ireland is closed to new business, most customer relationships have been transferred to other providers, and ongoing contact typically concerns residual loans, complaints handling, data requests, and exit-related matters.
