BNP Paribas Fortis

BNP Paribas Fortis is a Belgian universal bank headquartered in Brussels and wholly owned by BNP Paribas. It originated from Fortis Bank after the 2008 financial crisis, with BNP Paribas acquiring control in 2009 and becoming sole shareholder in 2018. The bank provides retail, private, corporate and public-sector banking in Belgium, offering current and regulated savings accounts, payment cards and digital wallets, consumer finance and mortgage lending, investment products and brokerage, and insurance distributed through partners such as AG Insurance. Corporate and institutional clients access cash management, lending, leasing and factoring, trade finance and markets services via the BNP Paribas Group network. Day-to-day banking is delivered through the Easy Banking App and web platform, with support for Bancontact/Payconiq and major mobile wallet schemes, instant payments and SEPA transfers. The physical footprint has been reduced as branches and proprietary ATMs are rationalized, with cash access increasingly provided through the shared Batopin network. Retail services are structured in fee-based account packages with tiered features, and standard charges apply for services outside included bundles. BNP Paribas Fortis is directly supervised as a significant institution under the European Central Bank’s Single Supervisory Mechanism, with prudential oversight by the National Bank of Belgium and conduct supervision by the FSMA. Eligible deposits are covered by the Belgian deposit guarantee scheme up to €100,000 per depositor per institution.
