HSBC Continental Europe

HSBC Continental Europe is a French-incorporated credit institution based in Paris and wholly owned by HSBC Holdings plc, set up as the group’s primary European Union banking hub following the UK’s exit from the EU. It operates under the European Central Bank’s Single Supervisory Mechanism, with day-to-day prudential oversight by the French Prudential Supervision and Resolution Authority (ACPR) and market conduct oversight by the AMF for investment services, and is subject to EU capital, liquidity, recovery, and resolution rules; eligible deposits are covered by France’s FGDR guarantee scheme up to statutory limits. The bank focuses on corporate and institutional clients, providing cash management, payments, trade and receivables finance, foreign exchange, rates and credit markets access, securities services, and structured financing, delivered through HSBC’s global network and digital channels such as HSBCnet. It serves multinational subsidiaries and domestic corporates across France and via branches in several EU countries, enabling cross-border treasury and transaction banking under a single European platform. In 2024 it completed the disposal of its French retail banking operations to My Money Group, which relaunched the acquired network under the CCF brand; following this exit, day-to-day consumer banking in France is no longer offered by HSBC Continental Europe, which remains focused on wholesale and investment-related services for eligible clients. The entity publishes Pillar 3 disclosures and statutory reports, and its credit ratings incorporate parental support considerations typical for a core subsidiary of a global banking group.
