O Crelan
Crelan is a Belgian cooperative bank that focuses on retail, self-employed, SME, and agricultural clients, operating through a nationwide network of independent agents and digital channels. It offers current accounts, regulated savings accounts with base and loyalty components, term deposits, debit cards compatible with domestic and international schemes, credit cards, consumer loans, mortgages, business lending, and investment products such as funds and pension savings, with insurance distributed via partners. The bank applies package-based and à la carte pricing for daily banking, with typical charges for paper statements, urgent or international transfers, cash withdrawals abroad, currency conversion, and additional or replacement cards; SEPA transfers and domestic payments are generally included in account packages, while non-SEPA or SWIFT transfers carry fees. Digital banking is available via web and mobile app with strong customer authentication, biometric login options, and standard card security (e.g., 3-D Secure) and controls. Crelan completed the acquisition of AXA Bank Belgium in 2022, bringing both entities under the Crelan Group; product integration and brand migration have been phased and communicated to customers. Deposits are protected by the Belgian deposit guarantee scheme up to €100,000 per person per bank, while cooperative shares (CrelanCo) are equity instruments and not covered by deposit insurance. Savings and lending rates and account fees are subject to change, and income from savings and investments is subject to Belgian tax rules. Crelan is supervised by the European Central Bank and the National Bank of Belgium for prudential matters, and by the FSMA for conduct, and provides services in Dutch and French with availability of English materials depending on the product or channel; account opening and service availability can depend on residency status and KYC requirements.
