O BRB BUDA Regionális Bank Zártkörűen Működő Részvénytársaság
BRB BUDA Regionális Bank Zártkörűen Működő Részvénytársaság (often referred to as BRB Buda Regionális Bank Zrt.) was a Hungarian credit institution headquartered in Budapest, operating as a private company limited by shares and supervised by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB). The bank’s model was that of a small regional lender, providing retail and small business services such as current and savings accounts, term deposits, payment cards, domestic and cross‑border transfers, and a range of loan products including consumer, mortgage, and SME financing; it participated in the Hungarian GIRO clearing system and, as a Hungary‑based institution, fell under the country’s deposit guarantee framework through the Országos Betétbiztosítási Alap (OBA). In 2015 the MNB withdrew the bank’s operating licence and ordered liquidation following supervisory action affecting several regional banks, after which the institution ceased offering services; insured depositors were compensated by OBA up to the statutory limit (the euro‑equivalent of EUR 100,000 per depositor per bank), and remaining claims have been handled via the liquidation process. The brand may still appear in historical account documentation or counterpart due‑diligence files, but the entity is defunct; new accounts cannot be opened, legacy customer relationships have been terminated or transferred through compensation and resolution procedures, and any residual creditor or debtor matters are resolved by the appointed liquidator in line with Hungarian insolvency law.
