O BINCKBANK N.V.

BinckBank N.V. was a Dutch online bank and brokerage based in Amsterdam that focused on self-directed investing and related services in the Netherlands and several European markets, including Belgium, France, and Italy. It offered trading in equities, ETFs, options, futures, mutual funds, and fixed income, alongside savings accounts and discretionary portfolio management under in-house labels introduced over time. The firm held a Dutch banking license and was subject to prudential supervision by De Nederlandsche Bank and conduct supervision by the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets; client securities were typically held in a segregated custody foundation, while cash balances fell under the applicable deposit guarantee framework for the serving entity. Historically, BinckBank charged per-order commissions, as well as service and custody fees in certain tiers, applied currency conversion markups for foreign trades, and offered margin facilities subject to eligibility and risk controls. The company expanded through acquisitions and product launches, including the purchase of the Alex brokerage brand in 2007, and co-founded The Order Machine (TOM) multilateral trading facility for retail order execution, which later ceased operations. At its peak it administered tens of billions of euros in client assets across several hundred thousand accounts. In 2019, Saxo Bank agreed to acquire BinckBank; following regulatory approvals the company was delisted and integrated into the Saxo Bank Group, with client migrations and rebranding phased in across markets from 2020 onward. After integration, services, platforms, and fee schedules were aligned to Saxo’s frameworks, and the Binck brand has largely been retired; depending on the specific legal entity now serving clients, investor protection and guarantee schemes may differ from the legacy Dutch arrangements.
