NIBC Bank N.V. is a Dutch bank headquartered in The Hague, established in 1945 as De Nationale Investeringsbank, operating under a full banking license supervised by De Nederlandsche Bank and the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets within the EU’s Single Supervisory framework. Its model combines a retail franchise under the NIBC Direct brand—offering savings accounts and term deposits in the Netherlands and Germany and originating residential mortgages, including owner-occupied and buy-to-let—with asset-backed and specialty finance for mid-market corporate clients in selected Northwest European markets, covering areas such as commercial real estate, leveraged finance, equipment and receivables finance, and infrastructure/digital infrastructure; legacy exposure to sectors like shipping has been managed more selectively. Retail deposits fall under the Dutch Deposit Guarantee up to €100,000 per person per bank. Distribution is largely digital with no traditional branch network, and mortgages are mainly placed via intermediaries and proprietary labels. Funding sources include retail savings, covered and unsecured wholesale debt, and securitisations. The risk profile is driven by Dutch housing exposures and cyclical corporate sectors, subject to CRD/CRR capital and liquidity requirements. NIBC was listed on Euronext Amsterdam in 2018 and was acquired in 2020 by funds managed by Blackstone, after which it was delisted. The bank focuses on a limited retail product set and does not provide current accounts for day-to-day payments; rates, fees, and lending criteria are set by the bank and change over time.
