SMBC Bank EU AG is the European Union banking subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, incorporated as a German stock corporation and headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. Set up in 2020 to maintain and expand the group’s EU/EEA operations following the United Kingdom’s exit from the EU, it holds a full German banking license and operates through branches in selected EU markets to serve large corporates, financial institutions, and public-sector clients. The bank focuses on corporate and investment banking services including bilateral and syndicated lending, project and export finance, leveraged and acquisition finance, real estate and other asset-backed finance, trade finance, cash management and payments, and risk management in foreign exchange and interest rates, with capital markets and advisory activities coordinated with other SMBC Group entities. It does not offer retail banking and does not provide consumer current accounts, cards, or mortgages. SMBC Bank EU AG is supervised by BaFin and the Deutsche Bundesbank within the EU’s Single Supervisory Mechanism and is subject to EU prudential requirements on capital, liquidity, large exposures, recovery and resolution, and disclosure; it publishes audited annual financial statements and Pillar 3 reports. Eligible deposits, where accepted, are protected by the German statutory deposit guarantee up to €100,000 per depositor. The bank is wholly owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, a core subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group.
