SMBC Bank EU AG is the European Union banking subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, incorporated as an Aktiengesellschaft and headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. It functions as the group’s EU hub, providing corporate and investment banking services to clients across the European Economic Area through branches and cross-border passporting. The bank focuses on large corporates, financial institutions, and public sector entities, with activities that include bilateral and syndicated lending, project and structured finance, trade and export finance, cash management and payments, debt capital markets distribution, foreign exchange and interest rate derivatives, and related advisory and agency services. It does not operate a retail franchise or market consumer products. SMBC Bank EU AG is an authorized credit institution supervised under the EU’s Single Supervisory Mechanism by the European Central Bank in cooperation with BaFin and the Deutsche Bundesbank; it is subject to CRR/CRD, MiFID II and EMIR, and to the EU resolution framework under the Single Resolution Mechanism. Statutory deposit protection is provided via the German private banks’ scheme (Entschädigungseinrichtung deutscher Banken) up to €100,000 per eligible depositor; higher voluntary protection may not apply.
