Orange Bank

Orange Bank is a French mobile bank launched in 2017 by Orange S.A. following the acquisition of Groupama Banque, operating under a French credit institution license and supervised by the ACPR, with deposits covered by the FGDR up to €100,000 per depositor. It has provided app-based current accounts with a Mastercard debit card, SEPA transfers, real-time spending notifications, mobile wallet support (Apple Pay and Google Pay), optional authorized overdraft, a bank savings account not subject to the regulated Livret A rates, and unsecured consumer loans; onboarding is fully digital and there is no branch network. Pricing is structured around a basic plan and paid tiers, with fees that may apply for out-of-plan usage such as certain foreign currency card transactions, withdrawals beyond included quotas, or premium features; limits and eligibility criteria depend on the chosen plan and the customer’s profile. Orange expanded the service to Spain in 2019, but in 2023 announced its withdrawal from retail banking and entered into arrangements with BNP Paribas to organize a customer migration, leading to reduced availability for new accounts and a phased transfer or closure of existing products through 2024–2025 depending on market and product. The offer is focused on euro-denominated day-to-day banking for individuals and does not provide a branch experience or multi-currency accounts.
